Today marks an important landmark for my family. Almost seven months ago, my wife, Gail, and I were just finishing a 300 mile motorcycle ride through Idaho, Wyoming and back home to Utah, when we got cut off in traffic and went down on I-80.
I walked away from the accident, but Gail broke both arms and both legs, breaking a total of about 15 bones in more than 20 places. She had two major surgeries to put titanium plates in both arms, her right hand and her left knee.
Her recovery has been agonizing. I'll spare you the details. Gail took her first unaided steps just days before Christmas--after more than five months.
Today, Gail took a huge step. She returned to work as a second grade teacher.
Her commitment to her students and her courage to stretch herself, remind me that she is my hero.

I hope Gail keeps recovering well. That sounds like an extremely painful, life-changing experience. I can only imagine what that must be like. Thanks for reminding us all who our heroes should be. Mine is my wife, too!
