I'm in New York for a day or two. That sounds like I don't know. I arrived yesterday morning on the JetBlue (JetBlue Airways corp - Nasdaq: JBLU) red-eye (they'd like me to call it the "shut eye"--it's not) and leave tonight. The schedule is conducive to getting lots of meetings done--the travel happens at night when I've got nothing better to do, right?
I love New York. (Which is funny, because when I finished graduate school at Cornell I wanted to go work anywhere else--now I'd love a chance to get back here!)
I love New York for a reason. Everyone in the deal community wants to do deals. When I come to New York, I can always fill my schedule with private equity guys, investment bankers and even venture capitalists.
Maybe it's because an investment banker from Utah is such a curiousity everyone wants to meet one (the joke is, meet him, as if there were only one--which is not far from the truth).
This is a town where business gets done. You don't have to join a club. You don't have to be tall and handsome--thank heavens. You don't have to be a guy. You just have to bring a deal.
By the way, I did stay at my favorite place here in New York--the Cornell Club--of which I am a member. But I didn't have to do this to get meetings. It is right in the heart of the private equity finance community here. I walked to every meeting from here!
