Each year, the University of Utah Business Alumni Association (which I chair) chooses a professor from among those serving at the David Eccles School of Business to receive the Brady Superior Teaching Award. This year, the award recipient was Dr. Anu Phene. She has been at the "U" for about six years now and has made a real mark on the program.
The award is named for the generous man, Dr. Rodney H. Brady, who funded the award. He earned his undergraduate degree and an MBA at the University of Utah. Decades after graduating, he talks about long-forgotten faculty and the impact they've had on his career as if he'd stayed in touch with them since graduation.
After graduating, he earned a Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard University. He later became President of Weber State University and today heads up Deseret Management Corporation, the holding company for all of the for-profit business assets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
When Dr. Brady was admitted to the David Eccles School of Business Hall of Fame, Gordon B. Hinckley, the man Mormon's revere as their Prophet, delivered the tribute.
Every year, Dr. Brady personally presents the award to the recipient because he is genuinely passionate about the importance of teaching and its impact on students.
Anu, congratulations! This award is a well-earned and significant tribute to you!
