Presuming, as I believe most people do, that he was guilty of the crimes for which he was in fact convicted, it surprised me to learn that because his appeal was still pending, the government will likely expunge his official record, not only leaving no conviction, but also leaving no indictment.At the end of the day, I came to feel that his conviction seems to me to have cost him his life. I suppose he never conceived that he might be convicted and was, as a result, literally shocked to death by the conviction.
If my simple analysis is correct and Lay's conviction cost him his life, I conclude that that is enough. May he rest in peace.
