I don't know anything about Mr. Thomson, but it is always a good idea to attend an event of this sort because of the other folks who'll be there.  The guest list will include entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, angel investors, investment bankers, securities and M&A lawyers, etc.  In other words, this may one of the largest meetings of the year in the deal community. 

I, for one, don't want to be left out.
