I read an interesting article from the Christian Science Monitor today about the OpenCourseWare Consortium, a multi-national consortium of schools that includes six U.S. universities, including most prominently, M.I.T.
The other universities involved from the U.S. are: Johns Hopkins, Tufts, UC Irvine, Notre Dame, and Utah State University.
M.I.T.'s goal is to have all of its courses available by the end of this year and already has most. Most courses are provided in the form of all of the teaching notes--everything you'd get from your professor. Text books are not included. For most courses, the lectures are not provided in audio or video format.
For a short list of M.I.T courses, however, full videos of each lecture are provided. So, for my son who is taking linear algegra at the University of Utah, he can go on-line and review the M.I.T. lectures as a supplement to his study.
