Last week I took the time to visit the Bay Area for networking purposes.
I visited with the general partner of a large Palo Alto-based fund over lunch at Il Fornaio. Although we didn't remember each other from the old days, we quickly figured out that we graduated together from the University of Utah in 1989, both with degrees in finance.
He made an interesting comment over lunch: "You're not a player in Silicon Valley unless you have $100 million dollars." He also admitted that he doesn't have $100 million. I imagine he's a lot closer than I!
Later, I attended a gathering of Cornell Alumni, who'd come together to hear the President of Cornell, David Skorton, and several faculty members and alumni speak. It was a great event.
Over the weekend, Gail, my wife, joined me and we enjoyed a long drive down the coast on Highway 1, visiting Santa Cruz, Carmel and Monterey. One highlight of the drive was a quick cruise through Pebble Beach.
Gail wants to move to Pebble Beach. We found a one bedroom fixer-upper for sale for $790,000. I'll need to get a few more deals done!
In any case, I enjoyed my visit to the Bay Area.
